A high-speed crash involving a luxury Lamborghini in Kanpur on Sunday afternoon left at least six people injured and caused panic in a busy market area. The incident happened around 3.15 pm near Rev-3 Mall in the Gwaltoli area, one of the city’s upscale localities. Police have seized the car and are in the process of registering a First Information Report (FIR).
The car first rammed into an auto-rickshaw and then crashed into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle. The force of the impact threw the motorcycle rider nearly 10 feet into the air. The Lamborghini climbed onto the motorcycle’s front wheel and dragged it for some distance before finally crashing into an electric pole and stopping.
Several people standing nearby were injured. One of them, Taufiq Ahmed, suffered serious leg injuries. He was standing next to his parked bike when the speeding car suddenly hit him and threw him several metres away.
Allegations of drunk driving
Witnesses told police that the Lamborghini was being driven at a very high speed. Some also claimed that the driver appeared to be drunk at the time of the accident. However, officials said the results of any medical examination have not yet been confirmed, NDTV reported.
Locals alleged that after the initial collision, the driver tried to flee the scene instead of stopping. People in the area said that private bouncers travelling in another vehicle with him tried to protect him from the angry crowd and behaved aggressively.
This led to further chaos. Enraged locals smashed the windows of the Lamborghini and forcibly pulled the driver out of the car.
Police teams soon reached the spot and carried out crowd control. The driver and the injured victims were taken to a private hospital for treatment. The damaged Lamborghini was seized and later taken to the police station for investigation.
Police said the car is registered in Rohini, North West Delhi, as per Regional Transport Office records.
The driver has been identified as Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco businessman KK Mishra. An FIR is being registered against him, and further investigation is underway.
Who is Shivam Mishra?
Shivam Mishra is not new to public attention. He came into the spotlight in 2024 during a major Income Tax Department investigation into his family’s tobacco business, Banshidhar Tobacco Private Limited, which is headed by his father, KK Mishra.
The Income Tax Department had carried out raids at around 20 locations across Kanpur, Delhi, Mumbai and Gujarat. Nearly 15 to 20 teams were involved in searches spread across five states.
Income Tax raids and irregularities
Investigators had claimed that while the company declared an annual income of Rs 20 to 25 crore, its actual turnover could be between Rs 100 and 150 crore. Officials alleged mismatches in income records and suspected violations of Income Tax and GST laws.
They also claimed that money may have been hidden using offshore accounts and false accounting entries, though details of further legal proceedings have not been made public.
Shivam Mishra’s luxurious life
During the 2024 raids, officials searched Shivam Mishra’s residence in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar and seized several luxury vehicles, all with the number plate ‘4018’. The collection, worth about Rs 50 crore, included a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a McLaren, a Porsche and the same Lamborghini Revuelto involved in Sunday’s crash.
The department also seized large amounts of cash, jewellery and expensive watches, including a diamond-studded watch allegedly worth Rs 2.5 crore.
Now, with the Kanpur crash, Shivam Mishra is once again under intense scrutiny.
